My gosh, it has been a very eventful year for us even though it really hasn't been reflected on this blog. The bottom line is, I author six blogs BUT life events resulted in me losing a bit of my blogging mojo. Somehow, the simplest task of editing a picture for the blog became a huge chore I just couldn't do. Now, I know that sounds funny but I've been blogging for over six years now and with six blogs that for quite some time were getting daily updates, perhaps I burned myself out. Or perhaps spending time at our vacation home and not wanting to be on the computer all the time contributed to the problem. But is was the the first year in our new home so there was a lot to do, I had a nasty slip and fall in February and my husband was hospitalized for five days with an unknown gastrointestinal problem in August.
I have a few plans for this blog in 2013. I really do love the idea of Blog Your Blessings Sunday but most of the original participants are long gone, bloggers on the blogrolll have quite blogging and I think even the founder no longer participates. It was a wonderful blogging concept that just ran its time then fizzed. Clearly that is something I will need to change in the up coming year. I will likely make a new graphic and rename the Sunday posts to reflect that even in the bad times, there are blessings. The Wordless Wednesday posts are always great even though I have be slack of late but I think I'm going to keep them in another form. Originally, Wordless Wednesday was started by bloggers to post a picture that says a million words without anything added. It not like any of the Wordless Wednesday crowd ever acknowledges me so I suppose renaming them wouldn't be a huge issue, so maybe I will rename it to my pic of the week.
So expect a few changes in the posts, perhaps the introduction of a couple of regular posts and the modification of two of the regular posts. I will be doing a bit of background tweaking but for the most part you shouldn't see anything. I'm looking forward to a brand new year with a few changes and hopefully getting this blog back on track :)

Blog Mainenance Due to New Blog Signature Image
A few days ago I decided to update my blogs with a new blog signature image to replace the old text based signature. What this meant was creating an image, adding it to the blog HTML then removing the existing signature. That is easier said than done as I know of no easy way to remove the existing signature other than manually. Now, consider I have 6 blogs I am making this change to which means six different images and manually opening each existing post to make the change. On this blog alone there are 1564 posts spanning 63 pages. That is a massive lot of work! At the same time I am adding labels, correcting spelling and adding alt tags where necessary so it is beyond a massive amount of behind the scenes blog tweaking. It is slow going and it is creating a considerable amount of eye strain because it is all coding that I'm going through. The end result will give a better reading experience but it is still a lot of work. So far, two of my blogs have been fully updated and I'm now working on this one. Three more to go and life will be good :)

Getting Posting Back on Track
Oh wow! I did not realize how much my posting here had dropped off. It wasn't intentional, it just sort of happened. Quite frankly, 2012 has been a bad blogging year for me all the way around. Part of that is due to moving here in September of 2011 then spending almost three months spanning three periods at our vacation home in the sunny south. Part of it is due to still unpacking and getting organized combined with necessary new house work. Part is due to do things like painting and dealing with woodworkers, plumbers and those type of things. Believe me they can eat up a week's worth of time in a blink of an eye. Part is due to significantly increasing my home canning to compensate for almost two years of reduced home canning. And part of it is due to sheer exhaustion from a serious injury, a husband hospitalized and life in general. The past year has really been a merry-go-round of chaos. Well, there you have it in a nutshell the reasons for the lack of posts.
It's not that I don't have blog fodder, it is I have too much blog fodder. I haven't even finished writing about our spring vacation to Florida and Aruba yet and here we are gearing up for our fall vacation to the sunny south.
Ok, time to get back into the blogging loop to have a strong finish for the third quarter of 2012. I have added a new signature image to replace the old text base one and am not working through manually removing the text based sig from older posts, correcting spelling and adding label. So there is a lot of behind the scene activity going on. Progress is being made!

Blog Your Blessings Sunday - Getting Back to Normal

This past week has been rather hectic between my husband being in the hospital, trips back and forth to the hospital, trying to work home canning around that and life in general. I am beyond exhausted but so very pleased that my husband was discharged from the hospital earlier this week and is well on the way to a full recovery! What a wonderful blessing! Oh, and I did manage to home can chili sauce and tomato stock while he was in the hospital. The past couple of days, I canned salsa and seafood sauce with more tomato stock to be canned today. It is a blessing to be able to stock our pantry with delicious, additive free, home canned foods!
Blog posts have been rather hit or miss on this blog lately. I'm working on changing that so you should see more regular posts for the last quarter of 2012. The biggest change is I have changed from a text based blog signature to an image based one. It will take me a day or two to remove all the old text based signatures from older posts. I think the image signature looks a bit classier. Quite some time ago, I was going to eliminated the Blog Your Blessings Sunday posts. Most of the original members of the meme have moved on and are no longer participating. However, it is a good way to remind me to stop and count my blessings so I will likely continue those Sunday posts. I'm working on a few other changes for this blog just to help get my blogging mojo back as well. Here's to a strong blogging end for 2012!

Gathering Blog Fodder
I've been on a blog fodder gather mission and the results of that will be quite apparent shortly. Yesterday I had a bit of free time on my hand so flicked through a few television stations. Oh good gosh, there is no end to blog fodder on the good old boob tube! Just in the news a babysitter's boyfriend put their little charge into a washer in a laundromat and turned on the washer. Like what was he thinking? Then a Florida doctor who was to sails to the wind proceeded to seriously abuse himself when taken into custody. I'm thinking he might be seeing his patient list go down! But nothing prepared me for the blog fodder you can find watching the tv judge shows. These shows are seriously beyond belief!
So there is this young couple in their early 20's. She is nice looking and conducts herself appropriately in court. He is good looking but I swear none of his brain cells were working yet he had this good natured cockiness about him. It was down right hilarious! She said he had a drinking problem but when the judge asked him if he did, his answer was the drink had a problem with him. Well apparently, he got himself arrested because the friendly guy on the bus didn't want to lend him his cell phone so he punched him. That was after the young guy showed him one of the team tatoos under his arm. He has two and the explanation was just too funny not to mention about how he is going to get a devil girl and angel girl on his large tatoo so they can battle over his heart. So with the public disorderliness and intoxication he was arrested again and that judge gave him bail because he had had something like two similar charges in the past two months. Obviously he had a bit of a problem and yet he was funny. Then she started talking. Clearly this couple was not meant to be but she put up $5,000 cash and guaranteed his bail of $50,000 then calmly proceeded to get him kicked out of him mandatory addiction rehab! No reason was given as to why she caused enough of a scene to get him kicked out. I did get the impression that she was very much an enabler so perhaps she didn't want him to get sober. She sued for her $5,000 back because he was still partying, making no attempt to pay her back. Meanwhile, he continued to play the charming class clown in court. As funny as it was, and honestly you couldn't help laughing, yet it was sad.
Under ideal circumstances this couple might have been a perfect match. They looked good together and it was clear that they still cared about each other. For whatever reason, this young man full of good looks and who could easily become a very well paid comedian, somehow got side-tracked. Unless there is some type of intervention he will continue along this pathway of addiction until he dies an early death either from the alcohol itself or through the violence it is causing. What a sad prediction...

Alive and Still Kicking...
No, I have not dropped off the face of the earth but I have been extremely busy. The first of the year I decided I wanted to paint all the rooms in the house before spring. Well, I'm pleased to say I made a very good start but did not make that goal. We have had a lot of activity going on in the house with various service and contract people in. The problem is, each tends to take up a good day or more of time leaving me a lot less online time. So far the custom woodworker has finished the bathroom but the doors to the cabinet weren't quite right so he is redoing them. In the meantime, he built in the bulkhead in the kitchen in a gorgeous oak to match our kitchen cabinets but the colour is off just slightly and we like the new colour so the cabinets have to be refinished. See how it goes, one project leads into another one! Then they installed our new garage door opener as the old one just quit and installed the central vacuum unit to replace the broken new vacuum just out of warranty. His work tied up a good three days and he is far from finished. Onward to our window treatment saga. We ordered panel sliders for the patio doors and California shutters for the large front window. They came out last Saturday for the install. The panels were the wrong material and the shutters ended up only partially installed. They are up but will fall if you try to open fully because there is nothing securing the shutters other than the hinges. At a cost of almost $2,500, going through a business with a top notch reputation and tying up a Saturday afternoon, I was beyond being disappointed. The good news is the new panels are scheduled to be installed this afternoon aka more time tied up. The plumber was in to fix the upper level shower which ended up spanning three days then he was back to install a water powered sump pump backup system which took up another day. We live in what the insurance company deems a flood prone area so our insurance went up $300 by moving here. This backup system will give us a discount on our insurance policy. The alarm company was in to determine the security system install for this coming week.
Aside of the various service and contract people filling in my days, I have been volunteering at the breakfast club three mornings a week then running my errands in the morning and getting things done around the house in the afternoons. Early this week one of the volunteers at the breakfast club had a stroke so I was there every day this week. I don't mind and really enjoy being around the kids. I did a bit of volunteering a couple of evenings and play volleyball once a week. Actually, I don't play volleyball well at all but my doctor said moving is good for pain control so I go there to fill a spot but at least I'm out and moving a little. I'm also walking daily, something that isn't going to hurt me and it's good for the heart. Oh, and I'm spearheading a new and very exciting community project. It is a lot of work but I think it will be great for the community once up and running properly.
So, I'm alive and still kicking, just busy getting our new home settled and looking forward to the nicer weather...

My Gosh!
My gosh! I knew my blogging was suffering between volunteering, getting an amazing community project off the ground, decorating and home upgrades; I just didn't realize how badly. Long time readers of this blog are used to getting daily posts, so I really do apologize. Sometimes, life just throws enough curve balls that it is hard to get back into the rhythm of things. I will try to pick up the posting frequency so please bare with me.

Blog Your Blessings Sunday - A Bittersweet Week

My husband and I have had an absolutely amazing week, tiring but amazing. There are so many good things happening in our lives right now that I can't help but be on cloud nine. Early this week a couple of my online friends, Ben and Turnip, who established CMF Ads about three years ago announced they are closing their blog advertising network effective October 30. I am very saddened by this announcement. Good gosh, it is not as if Ben and Turnip haven't worked hard to make a go of it and they are such nice people that I really hate to see them hurt like this. The blessing this week has been appreciating what Ben and Turnip have done for the blogging community. They are top notch, stellar folk that I as well as many will miss as influential folk in the blogosphere. They have brought class and integrity to the blogosphere. So with sadness I lift a final toast to them, warm in the memories the left us and cherishing the blessings they gave us. Farewell, old friends and until we meet again...

Blogger Outage
My apologies. Due to the recent Blogger outage, you have likely seen a few strange things going on with the blog. All posts made after Wednesday, May 11 at 7:37 AM were temporarily removed due to a Blogger maintenance issue. They were slowly being restored this morning so by now all should be back to normal. In the meantime you may have seen a post then the post was missing then it reappeared. Normal posting on this blog will resume as soon as the Blogger platform becomes stable again which I suspect will not be long. Blogger never goes down for this length of time so I'm sure it has been as frustrating for them as it has been for bloggers. At any rate it looks like things are starting to work properly so we shall see...

A Bit Off Track
I am a bit off track with blogging so need to get my blogging mojo back. It's time to find a bit of blog fodder for this blog to get the posts going again. Now where shall I look? I have a couple of ideas. Perhaps there will be a couple of good emails to share from my email file. Oh and the telemarketers also provide a bit of comic relief. Off to find blog fodder...

My Apologies
I had yesterday's Wordless Wednesday blog post ready and pre-scheduled to go live at 7:00 AM as per normal. For some reason Blogger did not post as it was scheduled which has happened a couple of times in the past. I usually make it a point to check in the morning to be sure all scheduled posts actually were posted but life got in the way yesterday. Thank goodness this is a only a minor glitch that happens on the rare occasion. At any rate yesterday's post is now live. I'm really sorry as I know many look forward to the Wordless Wednesday posts.

A Late Post
My gosh, this is a late post and I do apologize. This is the busy time of year when somehow blogging just gets pushed to the back burner. There are so many things going on here. For the second week in a row we have house guests so that just throws everything out of kilter. At any rate I am working at getting the posting back on schedule for those readers looking forward to reading new posts first thing in the morning. I can't make any promises only that I'm working on it.

Strike a Pose
We ate out at our local a couple of nights ago at the and as my normal custom I took several pictures of the meal. I've never had any complaints from doing this. Rather taking pictures of the meal has presented an opportunity for a starting lot of great conversations. It was a bit odd this time though as a couple dining at a nearby table were borderline agitated because I was taking pictures of my food. They made several comments. I found this rather strange since what I was doing at our table in no way affected them other than seeing something a bit different. Finally they said something to the waitress who said something then came over to our table to chat. Well apparently they were concerned over the picture taking until she told them I was a food blogger. I got a chuckle out that! LOL!

My Gosh Where Does Time Go?
My beyond cruddy satellite service went out last week which put me into dial-up mode while waiting for dumb and dumber to get here to fix it. In the meantime I tried to continue on with blogging as best I could but between dial-up and going to visit the grandkids I am very much behind! It doesn't help that the house is now officially listed again which has added to my to do list. Somewhere along the line I've lost almost a week and where did the time go? Honestly!

If I Could Turn Back Time
I read with great dismay that one of my favourite bloggers, Maitri is stepping away from most of her online life. She has said she will continue writing one blog but she has let the other blogs, Facebook and Twitter go in favour of living more in the real life. I'm saddened by this because Maitri's blogs are one of the first I visited on a regular basis back when I started blogging a little over 4 years ago. The thing is I really do understand where Maitri is coming from. I know it has been a rough year for her especially with the loss of one of her beloved pugs.
There are days that I honestly think walking away from my online life would just make things so much simpler. There would be no pressure to try an get posts out on schedule and no dealing with any online nonsense. In many ways I have cut back on my online activities especially when it comes to forums and groups but I'm considerably more active on social networks. At the same time blogging fills a need for me so I have no intentions of cutting back on that any time soon.
If I could turn back time...I really think I would be right here where I am right now. I'm content and happy so that's all that matters. It's funny thinking back how our first computer, an Amstrad 88 has taken me to here. Well actually our very first computer was an Atari but one of our kids used it all the time, spending hours typing in code just to get a little ball bounce across the screen. The Amstrad was different. Our first internet set up was Internet in the Box and I learned Gopher, Pine and Linux. It was unbelievable that I could easily talk to others half way around the would. Those really were good days for going online. They weren't as pretty but there were no worries about trojans, viruses and spam was almost unheard of. There were great ICQ and bulletin boards. I got to know the newsgroups. It when I learned by trial and error how to create a homepage using a funny language called HTML. My favourite operating system was Windows 3.1 and back then I was a die hard PC (Windows) user. I got into internet security and privacy so learned a lot about that something that still helps today. One of our kids got me into Mac for home use although I was quite familiar with Apple through academia. I made the move to Mac at home about 7 years ago and have never looked back although my current iMac is dual core so partitioned to use both Windows and Mac opperating systems.
In terms of online activities at some times it would be nice to turn back time to a quieter, less intrusive time of being onlin; a time when trolls were dealt with accordingly with a few well placed LARRTs. People respected online privacy and online stalking was a non-issue. It was a time where people just wanted to connect and really it was the first form of online social networking. I do miss those days! But I enjoy these days too so won't be walking away from the internet.

One of the Weirdest Places I've Blogged
I kid you not this is exactly where I was blogging from the evening a week ago Thursday. The bathtub made for a rather nice back rest although the floor was a little hard so my toosh kept drifting off to sleep. Why would I do this? The better question is why wouldn't I. Now there is a very valid reason for blogging from this location. We had arranged to have the carpets cleaned in the vacation house. The appointment was for between 1 pm and 3 pm. The carpet cleaner called about 2:30 pm to say he was running late and would it be ok if he came around 4 pm which in reality ended up being 4:30 pm. All of the livingroom furniture was crammed into the kitchen and the way the technician hooked up the modem I couldn't connect up outside. I think we'll have to get a router for wireless use throughout the house but that's another story. Anyway after the carpet cleaner was finished we slipped down to the clubhouse for dinner then my husband dropped me off so he could play cards with the guys.
I promptly connected up the computer with the cords protected from the wet carpet and set about blogging in the little bathroom. It wasn't as if there were many other options as even the patio doors to the lanai were blocked. When my husband returned he got quite the chuckle! He managed to get several incriminating photos as well. So there you have the weirdest place I've ever blogged but my blogging days are far from over so I might come up with another one or two weird places to blog :)

RMR: Focus on the Olympics
It is so nice to see Prime Minister Stephen Harper out there enjoying a hockey game while Parliament is prorogued. That basically means Stephen Harper gets a 3 month salary for doing nothing as opposed to the normal nothing he does on a regular basis. Either way he gets paid for it. Anyway it is so nice of Stephen Harper to share with the Canadian populus his generosity. Given there is nothing on Canadian television we are certainly waited with baited breath to the start of the Olympics that is of course if we can afford the tv tax, additional HST and have some type of device to see it in digital form. What a wonder the internet is. Yep we now have to pay an additional 8% in HST for internet but YouTube is cheaper than buying a decoder box and saves me 8% in the process. Thank-you Stephen Harper for providing blogfodder for this blog :)

A Bit of Rejection Frustration
Onto rejection number two. I joined a lovely food site called foodgawker and immediately submitting a picture of the cheese, meat & vegetable twist I had recently made along with pictures of two other dishes. You can only have 3 submissions in que so I waited to see if they were accepted. The verdic came back that all were rejected not on the basis of the recipe or blog but on the basis of the actual picture! Nowhere does it say you have to be a professional photographer only that the picture must be of food and on a food blog. The reason given for all was lighting problems ranging from harsh light to lighting/exposure issues. A re-submission of an edited version of the twist photo also came back with harsh lighting so was not accepted. This rejection has not deterred me at all. In fact I'm viewing this as a learning experience. I don't have a fancy or professional camera set-up much the same as most food bloggers don't either. Instead I will have to rely on Photoshop® to edit better which ultimately means I will be the winner with new found knowledge.
In the end rejection can be good or bad depending on how you view it. Rejection can be frustrating especially when it first happens but it doesn't spell the end of the world :) I'm off to work with Photoshop® and get a bit of help from their group.

Storms A Brewing
Skywatchers know that when the leaves turn a storm is a brewing! Thursday afternoon the leaves once again turned and that night we were hit with yet another storm. A prudent person pays attention to the signs of storms brewing whether it be weather or in some other aspect of their lives and acts accordingly. The young and/or foolish person does not. The biggest news in the blogosphere is the 'sale' of Entrecard to ZipRunner Inc. Now technically this wasn't a sale it was an acquisition due to a default note despite what former owner Graham Langdon says. Storms have been brewing at Entrecard for quite some time!
It definitely was time for Graham to leave Entrecard! Like a comedy of errors combined with an immature egotistical joke of the day, ex-members and members alike tuned in just to see what stupid thing he could come up with next. I honestly don't think he realized what a joke he had become in the blogosphere! He even bragged about being homeless and how much he enjoyed sleeping on a park bench. Now tell me what founder of a business they are trying to sell for a million dollars would even make mention of that? Then and one of his biggest downfalls was he played in Photoshop® changing his ad using filters. A EC member made a comment on Twitter regarding Graham's hat along with calling him an 'asshat'. Now Twitter has nothing to do with EC yet Graham went into overdrive, banned the member and put out a new rule that EC members could not say anything negative about EC on any forum, social network or blog or else they would be banned earning him the reputation of being a Nazi. This censorship did not sit well with members who either made it known vocally or quietly left. As if he had the right to tell others what they could say outside of EC. Well, from there it went from bad to worse!
He was making very poor business decisions that drove away a lot of good bloggers by running unauthorized paid ads on blogs and dictating where the widget had to be placed on blogs. Mind you as long as the content agrees with the TOS of your ISP and blog host, no one has the right to tell you what to put on your blog or where you should put it. In the past three months under Graham's guidance Entrecard lost one third of its traffic. That is a fairly large chunk of traffic to lose! There has been some speculation that some of these bloggers might return now that Graham no longer owns entrecard however with his announcement that he is staying on as advisor (possibly untrue) I doubt many will return. In fact on the July 17 Entrecard blog post by Andrew Te of ZipRunner he politely thanks Graham and while he specifically acknowledges that Phirate with stay on with Entrecard makes absolutely no mention of Graham remaining as an advisor. What I find interesting is Graham doesn't even have an EC widget on his new blog! It is more likely Graham blowing a bit of smoke than a reality that he will be staying as an advisor. What investor who gets a company through a default note would keep the person responsible on as an advisor? If Andrew does keep Graham as part of the management team it will be Graham's continued association with EC that will hurt the new ownership. ZipRunner would be well advised to cut all ties with Graham. The reality is the very bloggers that Entrecard depends on for its success want Graham gone! At any rate they have an awful lot of damage control and damage repair to do. Any signs of being wishy washy, showing lack of respect for their members, making rule changes without notice, excessive censorship or any of the other nonsense that has been going on in the past will show Andrew Te to be no better than Graham so EC will continue its rapid downward spiral. Don't forget under Graham's management EC has lost 1/3 of its traffic over the last 3 months. Now ZipRunner will have to earn that traffic back. Time will tell at how successful they are at that. I wish Andrew the best and hope that they can turn EC into what it was meant to be.
In the meantime there are many questions regarding the credits members have earned. It has already been noted that new members and those who did not sign-up for the cashout prior to the acquistion by Zip Runner will not be eligible for cashout. This is bound to tick-off a lot of people who have spent hours and I do mean hours dropping cards to build up points to cash out. These are people that went into a que under Graham's system and have been sitting for weeks waiting for approval for cashout eligibility. At the same time members are still complaining as late as today of unapproved paid ads running on their blogs. This is not a good way for the new ownership to start off!
Would I put my 5 blogs back into the Entrecard system? I was with Entrecard from almost the start. I saw its downward spiral. At my peak usage I was dropping 450+ per day spending upwards of 4 hr daily spread throughout the day depending on my connection speed. When I left Entrecard (reason here) I suddenly felt very relieved despite the fact they continued to spam me and refused to remove my blogs I found I enjoyed blogging more. There is a life outside of Entrecard! More importantly my traffic has increased while my bounce rate has decreased. It has taken me less than 3 months to build up a higher quality of traffic than Entrecard was providing and that's across all 5 blogs. So unless Entrecard dramatically changes under the new management and there is no association with Graham Langdon, no I would not return to Entrecard. See the way Entrecard is currently designed all that dropping takes away from adding precious content to your blog. Without content you don't get traffic. Without traffic you don't get readers.
