I'm so glad you could stop by. This is my personal blog of daily life and my journey through life. You will find a strong emphasis on family and friends as well as finding my ancestors through genealogy. Unlike my other blogs this blog is more of a catch-all so any topic is fair game.

Fashions and Hairstyles of the 1920's

There is just something that appeals to me about the Roaring Twenties.  This was a phase coined to describe the 1920's in North America, London, Paris and Berlin.  The time period was nestled between the end of World War I and the Wall Street Crash of 1929 that ushered in The Great Depression.  The economy flourished.  Several life changing inventions, discoveries and new technologies (automobile, moving pictures, radio) during the Roaring Twenties would change the world forever.  Jazz music became quite popular.  The mood was lighter and cheerier.

As someone interested very much in genealogy the Roaring Twenties is a fascinating time period.  The fashions and hairstyles are quite interesting, reflecting the changing roles of women in society.  Here's a great video of the fashions and hairstyles.  Enjoy :)

The Chair at the Fleamarket

The Chair
May 23, 2010

I love finding oddities at fleamarkets especially items that I don't know the actual function but can speculate a bit.  Take this great chair I found.  I didn't buy it but rather only took a picture.  It looks like a motorcycle seat attached to office chair legs.  So what could the function be?  Perhaps the original owner liked his motorcycle so much he converted his office chair to give the same feel.  Perhaps it is an earlier version of an ergodynamic chair meant to improve posture.  Then I got to thinking.  It wouldn't be a fancy milking or horse shoeing stool because of the wheels that would make it impractical.  Notice the nice leather with complimentary brass trim.  I think this stool may have belonged to an affluent dentist.  He would easily be able to roll the chair around as needed, sit for certain dental proceedures without being encumbered by the back of a chair.  What do you think?

Old Farm Relic

Old Farm Relic
May 12, 2010

Each year we buy a cow (beef on the hoof) then a friend of ours raises it until it is ready to go to the abattoir.   Most years we split the meat with three other couples but this year we decided to keep half ourselves.  Last Wednesday we took a road trip to pick up our bulk meat purchase.  It was a nice, sunny but chilly, windy spring day just perfect for a jaunt in the country.  Scattered throughout the countryside are old farm relics now used as lawn accents standing as a reminder of quieter and gentler times.

Old Relics

Old Relic
July 30, 2009

Reminders of days gone by always fascinate me so I just had to take a picture of this old foundation less than a block from the Lexington harbour. Pictured is the largest remaining section. There is a small section to the back as well. The entire relic has been allowed to be overgrown with vegetation giving it a very pretty but rustic look.
