I'm so glad you could stop by. This is my personal blog of daily life and my journey through life. You will find a strong emphasis on family and friends as well as finding my ancestors through genealogy. Unlike my other blogs this blog is more of a catch-all so any topic is fair game.
We are gradually winding down from the move. I'm still rather high strung and getting my bearings but we have the house pretty much livable. I'm taking advantage of the upheaval to do a bit of decluttering even though we did a lot of decluttering preparing for the move. The reality is what works at one house doesn't always work at the next house so there's no point hanging onto these items. I started experimenting in cooking with natural gas but found my childhood and camping days are somewhat like riding a bicycle so using natural gas for cooking has not been much of an adjustment. Surprisingly, this house is quite a bit quieter than our old house so I'm sleeping better as well as getting up earlier in the day. The house is lighter and brighter so it's really helping me with SAD. I think this winter will be a lot nicer in terms of mood with all the beautiful sunlight in our new home as well as the few weeks we get away to our vacation home. I've changed all the email and addresses over. I kept our old email account until the end of the month just to catch those who haven'tor need to be updated with out new contact information. All in all, things are winding down with the move. Now off to ceramics to create a couple of new gnomes :)

Gnomeo and Juliet
February 17, 2011
My husband and I seldom go to the theatre. When we do go to the theatre we make it a night out with stopping for dinner first then onto the show. A couple of weeks ago we decided to go see
Gnomeo and Juliet. We stopped at A&W for dinner for old times sake. Then it was off to the show. This really was a very cute movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for it to come out on DVD to add it to my Gnome Empire of all things gnomes!

Solar Gnome

We were doing a bit of shopping at Big Lots when I spotted this most amazing gnome just begging to join my Gnome Empire. During the day this gnome has a rather Harry Potter look but come night time those babies light right up. My husband said the gnome was a bit bizarre bordering on spooky while muttering something about gnomes in white coats. Can you just imagine this little guy lit up at night? Well I can and you know after fighting with rabbits in the garden perhaps this is just the gnome that should be invited to join the empire. Maybe he will jump into my cart the next time we are at Big Lots.

Garden Gnome Gathering Water
December 31, 2010
A walk-about is always a good activity to indulge in after a busy holiday season filled with lots of great foods. The nice thing about a walk-about is you never know what you are going to see or who you will meet. My camera is always with me just for those special times. I happened upon this very friendly gnome collecting water for his garden. He was up near a beautiful chunk or greenish glass. My Mom had several pieces of glass in her front garden bed so I've always been quite fond of it. After a brief chat and a photoshoot I let the gnome go about his business collecting water while I continued my walk-about.

For the past 16 months I have been dealing with essentially a troll. The online version of a troll is to create a huge disturbance usually in a newsgroup, get everyone upset then the troll sits back to enjoy all the ruckus. In this case the troll initially contacted me through my private email address then by phone contact so this has been something that has been going on in real life as well as online. Without going into a lot of detail this Gnome has been around the block a time or two so is not stupid. Gnomes are natural enemies of trolls and they will defend their territory. With a little help from my Gnome Empire pretty much all contact has been severed for this troll. The troll can no longer keep up with what I'm doing through Twitter and trying to read my blogs is just not going to happen. Email and phone contact is futile. And that should teach the troll that this Gnome knows exactly how to deal with trolls :)

Red Wing Team GnomeDecember 26, 2009My husband is one of the biggest
Detroit Red Wings fans you will ever meet. I on the other hand am rather fond of gnomes and other mythical beings. I just couldn't resist bringing this little guy home to join my gnome empire. He has taken up residence in my husband's
Red Wing room as the official guardian against trolls and other evil spirits. Isn't he simply adorable?

Michigan State Spartan Gnome
July 21, 2008
We play the
gnome game when traveling. That means I spot gnomes but because I tend to be a bit on the frugal side I will take a picture instead of buying unless the gnome fits in with my collection. We spotted this cute little gnome in a gift shop in St. Ignace, Michigan. This one didn't fit my collection even though my husband watches their games. He stresses is a fan of
Go Blue Wolverines! Now if they could just get a Detroit Redwings gnome he would be a real happy camper and the gnome would have been invited into my gnome empire :)

The Roaming Gnome
May 19, 2008
The neat thing about Las Vegas aside of all the glitter and noise is you never know when you are going to run into a celebrity so do be sure to always dress right to the bling. Bling is for those who don't know and I didn't until this trip, your jewelry. In Las Vegas that means big is better so if you like big rocks on your fingers this is the place to be but I'm digressing. We were doing a little road trip to see the new Palazzo so I dressed in my finest denim shorts with love shell (sleeveless top) paired with dressy flat sandles. My bling consisted of my normal jewelry, nothing special and as always my trusty camera. Well imagine my excitement when coming up the esculators at the Venetian who did I run into but
The Roaming Gnome! In case you haven't heard he is the current most famous gnome although other gnomes are not fond of his roaming nature. After our photo shoot and a bit of friendly conversation I headed on down to make friends with the Blue Man Group. I tell you bling is good but a camera is better :)

Last week was one where everything just seemed to meld together in a glorious blur of blessings. Some of my blessing highlights were:
- family as always provided love, strength, support and laughter
- video of grandbaby now 9 months old climbing the stairs
- excited news from DS and DDIL over hearing their baby's heartbeat for the very first time
- being able to take advantage of a couple of very good meat sales
- an abundance of local, in-season produce
- several successful canning sessions - my pantry is beginning to burst at the seams
- numerous photo opportunities
- a visit from a spider with a leg span of almost 3" - the blessings were we identified him to find he wasn't harmful to humans (barring my instant heart attack) and he was outside
- quiet reflective time
- two gnew gnomes joined my gnome empire
