Eye on the Flu Shot

Despite the humorous approach to the flu vaccine there is a fair amount of truth behind the video. Before you decide to get the flu shot you should know what you are getting so you can make an informed decision. What is in the regular flu shot?

• Egg proteins - including avian contaminant viruses, can cause allergic reactions
  
• Gelatin - known to cause allergic reactions
  
• Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™) - can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
• Formaldehyde - a known carcinogen
• Triton X100 - a strong detergent
• Sucrose - table sugar
• Resin - known to cause allergic reactions
• Gentamycin - an antibiotic
• Thimerosal - mercury is still in multidose vials as a preservative
  

Note: The vaccine can cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis usually associated with sensitivity to egg or gelatin
